My Minimalist Bedroom Makeover Reveal

It has been a while since I posted something and I thought it was finally time to share with you my room reveal. In my last post I shared with you a video of the process of creating my minimalist bedroom. My room is now completed however I did have a few struggles along the way which you should avoid.

The biggest change in my room are the colours of the walls. Before they were all light pink and now they are white and light blue grey. I chose the wall, opposite my bed, as an accent wall because it is the first wall you see when you come into my room and it contrasts nicely with the white desk and dresser. I think I could have taken a darker shade because the colour looks lighter when the sun shines on it. This is something you should avoid when choosing paint colours.

Another big change is the furniture and layout of my room. I used to have a big closet but now I have a dresser which I up-cycled by painting it white and black. Where my big closet used to be, there is now a small cupboard which used to be in another room. I used to also have extra storage behind my bed, but sacrificed this to make more space and instead I put the chair there. I use this chair to put on my used clothes. I also up-cycled the bedside drawers by painting it light blue grey on the outside and white for the small drawers.

The colour pallet of my room is white, light blue grey and black. I used black decorations to make an accent colour. This includes the handles of the dresser, the desk lamp, the stationary holders containing the markers and two small frames. In the two small frames I put vacation pictures printed out in black and white to fit with the colours scheme. This adds memories and art. I think the black accent colour pops out against the lighter colours. I decided not to add the three frames which I sprayed black above my desk because one of the frames failed so I only had two frames and this did not look great. To avoid making a similar mistake I would first try out if your idea works and then make a decision. Instead I put up an old art piece with a mirror which I think adds some colour. I think the colour pallet is very minimal but still very playful.

I also organised the minimised clutter in compartments and displayed my books on the shelf.

All the items are organised in their own category.. My clothes are stored in the dresser. My dresser contains all my clothes and I try to keep everything as neat as possible. Going from a huge closet to this small dresser was a change and it has been a challenge to fit the smaller assortment of clothes. I also try to keep it as neat as possible. For my socks and undergarments I used a drawer divider to keep it organised. I also put my vests on clothing hangers and hang this on a hook instead of hanging it in a closet.

My books are displayed on the top shelf of the cupboard. I also put a magazine file on the shelf containing sentimental papers such as cards. On the second shelf I put two white storage blocks which contain cushions. Below I store boxes with miscellaneous items and bed sheets.

The drawer under my bed contains miscellaneous items. In the drawer under my bed I got rid of most stuff and it now contains less than half the stuff I had in it before.

Before and after

In the drawers by my desk I sectioned each drawer into a category. These drawers contain my school notebooks and textbooks and my most used art supplies. I also changed the lighting into a light bulb which I think fits the style. For my bedding I used a turquoise bed sheet cover and a grey blanket. I think this fits well with the colour pallet in my room.

I sometimes struggle with keeping my room organised. To avoid this I would make sure everything is easy to put back in the storage where it came from. I still have some stuff which I could get rid of but it is much improved than before and becoming a minimalist is a journey and it takes time to own less. I am proud of what I achieved so far with making my room more minimal such as the colour pallet, layout and organisation.
