8 Essential Rules for Decorating a Minimalist Bedroom

You might think a minimalist bedroom should be plain and bare but surprisingly, decorations are essential for a minimalist bedroom to look comfortable. Right now my bedroom could use some. For the decoration to be successful there are a few rules to follow:

1. Simple colour palette

I have a mix of colours in my room but to make it more minimalistic it is important to have a simple colour palette. The colours of the walls in my room are light, so to make the decoration standout I am going to use a black accent colour.

2. Bedding

A platform bed is the best for a minimalist room, with or without a headboard. I have a platform bed without a headboard. My bedding also does not fit with the colour scheme of my room. So I am going to use bedding which fits the colour scheme and make it cosy.

3. Plain walls

Plain walls make the room look more clean. I have three frames above my desk and two whiteboards on the wall. I also have a mirror in my room which is always a good idea because it makes the room brighter and bigger.

4. Symmetry

Spray paint setup

Symmetrical decoration makes the room more organised and pleasant to look at. I decided to keep the three frames above my desk because they are symmetrical and they look clean. The frames are white but to make it stand out more I am going to spray paint them matte black.

5. Organised patterns and artwork

Patterns and artwork can also be used in a minimalist bedroom. However this should be controlled and have limited colours and simple lines. I am therefore going to change what is displayed in the frames to fit with the style.

6. Clean lines

Handle setup

Furniture with straight lines makes the room more open and relaxed. To accentuate this I am also going to spray paint the handles of the dresser black. This will give it a clean and fresh finish and create an accent colour. My dad thought of the idea to put the handles on screws in a plank to spray it easier.

7. Clutter free

Most importantly the bedroom should be clutter free. Most of my stuff is in the drawer under my bed. I also have a cupboard with shelves and on these shelves I displayed some books and plants to make the room less bare.

8. Bright light

Light is also important in a minimalist bedroom. I took off the cap of my lamp, kept the wire and replaced the light bulb with LED light. This reduces the consumption of electricity. I think the light bulb is very minimal and makes the room more open.

I am proud with how the frames and handles turned out. However, one of the frames got damaged and unfortunately you could see it after it was sprayed. So I might have to replace this. I hope these tricks are helpful and I can’t wait to show you the full reveal next week!

Which decorations are you going to put in your room?
