How to change your Teenage Room into a Minimalist Style

When becoming a minimalist you might want to update your room into a minimalist style. As you are decluttering your room it is a good opportunity to do this. You might also want to get rid of some storage as you have less stuff. A minimalist interior style includes using only the essentials to create a simple and uncluttered space which is similar to modern interior design. I am going to change my room into a minimalist style by purchasing the least amount of new items.

A minimalist interior style is not just about getting rid of items to create a plain and empty room. It is about simplifying the surrounding and getting rid of stuff to make space for the things that matter. The essentials of minimalism is light, form and materials. A few decorations are used to make it warm and cozy.

Natural light makes the room feel more open. In my room I have roller blinds and a curtain. To bring in more natural light I will get rid of the curtains. To also add more light I am going to get rid of the lamp with the cap I have now and use a new lamp with just a simple light bulb.

Clear surfaces and strong clean lines create focus to shape and form. Do not use any busy and detailed patterns.

A color scheme of white, grey and beige is typical for a minimalist interior style. However, neutral and light colors can also be used to create a simple effect. Everything should fit with the color scheme. Right now I have pink walls which could work but personally I want to change this. To fit with the minimalist style I am going to use a light blue grey.

Not everything needs to be plain so I am going to use a cupboard with two shelves for books and sentimental items. I am also going to use this cupboard for storage.

A minimalist interior is usually also open. To make more space you could use a single dresser. I have a big closet in my room which I would like to get rid of. However, I do not want to buy a new smaller closet. Instead I am going to up-cycle an old dresser from the attic. Right now it is wood which does not really fit with my room so I am going to paint it white to fit with my desk.

On the left is my big closet and on the right is the old dresser I am going to up-cycle.

Different shades and textures add warmth and comfort to a minimalist room.

The walls also do not need to be plain. You could add some framework for decoration however do not overdo it! You could add a plant for accent colour. I have three small cacti so I am going to keep these.

I hope this gives you an oversight about how to change the style of your bedroom into a minimalist interior.

What are you going to change about your bedroom?
